Etsy takes a cut of every sale, but the fees vary a lot depending on how you price, ship, and whether an ad drove the order. This guide lists every 2026 fee, shows a worked example, and gives you five proven ways to keep more of each sale.
Three fees apply to almost every sale; the rest are situational. Here is the full breakdown for a standard US seller:
| Fee | Rate | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 per listing | Every listing; auto-renews every 4 months |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% of order total | Every sale — includes shipping you charge and gift wrap |
| Payment processing | 3% + $0.25 (US) | Every order through Etsy Payments |
| Offsite Ads | 15% (under $10K/yr) or 12% (at $10K+) | Only on orders from Etsy's offsite ads; mandatory above $10K |
| Currency conversion | 2.5% | When listing currency differs from payout currency |
| Regulatory operating fee | ~0.3–0.5% | Some countries only |
On a typical US sale the mandatory fees (listing + transaction + processing) come to roughly 9.5–10.5% of the order total. Add an Offsite Ads order and the effective take can pass 20% — which is exactly why guessing at prices quietly destroys margins.
Charged when a listing is created or renewed. Listings auto-renew every four months, so a dormant listing still costs you money. Prices in the US are $0.20; some other countries have a slightly different amount.
The biggest and most misunderstood fee. It is calculated on the entire order total — the item price plus the shipping you charge the buyer, plus gift wrap and personalization. Charging more for shipping does not reduce this fee; it increases it.
Every order through Etsy Payments pays 3% of the order total plus a fixed $0.25. Rates vary by country, so edit the processing rate in the calculator to match your own.
Shops under $10,000 in annual sales can opt out. At or above $10,000 over the past 365 days, participation becomes mandatory. The fee only applies to orders that came from Etsy's offsite ads — 15% below $10K in sales, 12% at or above. See the Offsite Ads calculator for how it hits a single sale.
If your listing currency differs from your payout currency, Etsy adds a conversion fee on the converted amount. Sellers listing in USD and paid in USD avoid it.
A small fee (about 0.3–0.5%) that applies only in certain countries where local regulations require Etsy to collect tax on its own fees. Most US sellers never see it.
Say a buyer pays $25 for an item, $5 for shipping, and $0 gift wrap — a $30 order total. The item cost you $8 and the label cost $4.50:
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| Order total | $30.00 |
| Listing fee | $0.20 |
| Transaction fee — 6.5% of $30 | $1.95 |
| Payment processing — 3% + $0.25 | $1.15 |
| Etsy's total cut | $3.30 (11%) |
| Your profit after $12.50 of costs | $14.20 |
Now imagine that same sale came from an Offsite Ad at 15% — Etsy's cut jumps from $3.30 to $7.80, and your profit drops to under $10. Run your own numbers in the free Etsy fee & profit calculator.
This guide gives the rates; the calculator applies them to your real numbers. Enter one sale and see every fee itemized plus your true profit — it runs in your browser, no signup.

Yes. The 6.5% applies to the whole order total, including the shipping you charge, gift wrap, and personalization.
Opt out of Offsite Ads while under $10K/year, bundle variations into one listing, build shipping into the item price, sell digital downloads, and renew listings manually.
Before. Etsy deducts all fees automatically before depositing to your payment account, so your payout is already net of listing, transaction, processing, and ad fees.
